Our Story

Born on
Happy Valley Street

Keith & Mike

Two Barista-Chefs,
One Street, One Dream

Happy Valley Café did not begin with a business plan — it began with a belief. Keith Nilo and Mike Lozano, both trained barista-chefs, looked at a stretch of Happy Valley Street in Matina, Davao City and saw something others might have overlooked: a gathering place waiting to exist.

They named their café after the street that houses it. In doing so, they tied their identity to the neighborhood — a quiet residential corner of Matina that would become known for specialty coffee, thoughtful food, and genuine warmth.

Their approach was never transactional. The cup they serve you is a conversation. The food they plate carries intention. When culinary legend Chef Gene Gonzalez of the Philippines' storied culinary world called them "two of the most dynamic baristas in the Mindanao coffee scene," it was an acknowledgment of what the regulars already knew.

How We Think

Three Pillars of
the Valley

Every decision at Happy Valley Café traces back to a core belief — that the café experience should be deliberate, educational, and human.

The Cup Is a Conversation

When Keith or Mike hands you a coffee, they are not simply completing a transaction. They are opening a dialogue — about flavor, about origin, about what you need from the moment. Coffee here is a medium for connection.

Education as a Standard

Mike walks guests through the pour-over process — the cup material, the water temperature, the bloom, the timing. This is not performance. It is genuine barista knowledge shared freely, because they believe coffee is better when you understand what you are tasting.

Still, Subtle, Warm

The café they built is not loud. The neon says "and be in the Valley." The rattan chairs invite you to stay. The music is low. This is intentional — Happy Valley is committed to serving quality experiences to the public in this community, and that begins with stillness.
